Rascal-Bot

I was chatting with a few people in guild the other day and one of them was asking for suggestions of things to do. Honestly I don't know how anyone gets bored in WoW, there are so many different things to do. So I suggested a few options, but mostly I suggested he try out pet battles!

He was dubious at first, about the fun value in pet battles, and worried that he didn't have enough pets to battle with. I gave a few basic tips and suggestions, and then he was worried that he'd get too addicted to pet battles. So score one for pet battles!

Anyway after he logged off for the evening I sent him a present. I had a couple extra Sunfur and Snowy Pandas so I sent him one of each. I also shipped over a Pandaren Water Spirit. I get so many of the Panda and Pandaren Spirit pets from my daily rounds of the Pandaria Master Tamers, it can be hard to sell them all.

Imagine my surprise when I logged in the next day and had a mail in return from him! A mail containing a Rascal Bot!

After leveling him I took a closer look at the little guy and his abilities. And then immediately renamed him Bad Robot.

All these abilities are awesome references to JJ Abrahams works. Having just recently rewatched Star Trek Into Darkness, I'm most amused by Phaser, Lens Flare and Reboot.

Peons

The zeppelin airships and port in Orgrimmar is an equal opportunity employer.

Though their health care does leave a little bit to be desired...

Mr. Stomp

Running around the base of Wyrmrest temple in the Dragon Soul raid are two NPCs, Mr Stomp and Gor'in "Punchy" LIttlebottom. Punchy is chasing Mr. Stomp around.

Mr. Stomp yells: Stomp now.
Gor'in "Punchy" Littlebottom yells: Aaaaaaahhh! We're all doomed!

Gor'in "Punchy" Littlebottom yells: No! Right! Go Right!
Mr. Stomp yells: Buuurrrnnn!

There is more, I think Punchy tries to get Mr Stomp to go left at some point.

This dialogue coming from a molten fire construct/elemental should be rather familiar. It's definitely a reference to Rhyolith. It made me smile when I first noticed it, though our usual foot steerer on Rhyolith has never actually said "Aaaaaahhhh! we're all doomed!" he's come close a couple of times.

Moat Monster!

As I've said before Patch 4.2 added new cooking and fishing dailies in Undercity and Thunder Bluff. There are some excellent ones that are both poignant and funny, but my favorite by far is Moat Monster!

It combines a few of the previous cooking quests in UC into a most awesome fishing quest.

Making fun of the Aliance never gets old. ;D

Roach Coach

4.1 added a whole new set of cooking and fishing quests in Thunder Bluff and Undercity. The Undercity cooking quests are all about finding something for the Kor'kron Overseers to eat.

If you stick around a bit after turning in the quest you'll see some actual Kor'kron coming to get the (in?)famous Three-Spice Crunchy Stew.

Hungry Overseer (1) says: Aren't you worried about what's IN that?
Hungry Overseer (2) says: Not at all! If my gut could take three years of Razor Hill barrack's Stinky Cactus Grub Soup, a bowl of roaches isn't going to kill me.
Hungry Overseer (1) says: Roaches?! They wouldn't! Would they...? That's disgusting.
Hungry Overseer (2) says: HAH HAH HAH! Enjoy your stale rations, then. This slop's delicious.

It amused me that when I did this on Mornara both of the Overseers were female orcs.

Venn Diagrams

I am usually amused by a clever Venn Diagram. I try to find where I fit in the picture.

WoW Venn Diagrams I try to actually stand in the best spot. The location of most overlapping healing goodnesses and least boss bad-on-the-ground.

Sometimes this is easier than other times, but no matter what it's important to try. But as a tank I sure do love all the overlapping healing that I can just stand in and soak up.

Too Much to Drink

Khyrie might have had too much to drink while on the Speed Barge in Thousand Needles.

But hey! At least she got to barf on a gnome!

Too Many Dwarves

Over this past weekend DraNgNon and I helped a guildie friend of ours get Glory of the Hero her Red Proto Drake. She had most of the achieves already, but we did end up needing to hit about 5 Wrath heroics.

Because we are 85, and awesome, three-manned all of this and had a good time joking around while we did so.

While we were getting Abuse the Ooze in Halls of Stone, we each popped various dwarf disguise items. I guess if we have to help Brann we might as well look goofy too?

Ah, Sailors

I'm slowly working my way through the Eastern Kingdom quests with Mornara. So far I've done some quests in Arathi Highlands, Northern Stranglethorn, and Silverpine. I'm not being organized with these quests, in fact I'm usually doing them when I'm in the area while doing Archaeology and waiting for Arenas or Battlegrounds.

There have been a few humorous gems from these quests.

In particular I'm very amused by a couple of quests in Silverpine. Basically there is an orc fleet landing on the shores of Silverpine to help out the Forsaken against the Worgen. You've got to help these poor sailors through several misadventures.

... I did say sailors.

Stable Keeper

Goblins are not the most savory characters. They have a pretty well established gangster culture. As in the person with the biggest explosions and most money wins, and the best way to create the biggest explosions and get the most money is to screw over other people.

So I'm not going to be trusting them with anything valuable or irreplaceable unless there is someone else watching them.

Thrall's Balls

Thrall may not be the leader of the Horde anymore but he is certainly still well respected. He's still got a very loyal following. And even the people who are loyal to Garrosh still honor Thrall.

So it really amuses me that "Thrall's balls" is the new expletive of choice.

Random Moment of Hilarity/Awesome

Kuan and Mornara were in a heroic Grim Batol last night.

Well technically two of them, but I'm talking about the second. The first was so painful all I am saying is that I am repressing it.

Anyway, Grim Batol. It was us, Ildiavolo, a holy pally who had queued specifically for it, and a mage.

These pugs, both this one and the first GB of the night, make me weep for mages. As I asked in guild chat: is every mage not in Darkfall a blithering idiot? The response seemed to be mostly yes, aside from examples of a few DF mages who have moved on and Talaitha. I weep.

With just a few wipes, we made it through the first two bosses, despite the mage breaking his own sheeps at the wrongest possible times. We're on the third boss, and the adds just aren't dying fast enough. Because I do occasionally have Situational Awareness(tm), I see that both Volo and Kuan are trying to kill the adds, but most of the time one of them has to kite. The mage, is just staying on the boss, except for when he dies to dragon flame....

Well after our 2nd wipe the mage bugs out and drops group with not a word.

As the rest of us are running in the pally pipes up:
"Darn..."
"Who will die to easily avoidable mechanics now?"
Hotfries of Nazgrel, you are my hero.

We all laugh, and a new mage pops into our group. The new mage assures us that he is able to not stand in fire, and can kill things. He knows the fights, and with a small amount of division of labor we proceed to one shot both of the remaining bosses of Grim Batol.

Finding the Bar

A long long time ago, I was lost in Black Rock Depths (BRD). I wandered around the Prison Block and the Ring of Law. I fought my way through the Quarry and the Dark Iron Highway. I could see the Bar (aka the Grim Guzzler), but I had no fucking clue how to get to it. Shortly after that I was trying to get attuned to Molten Core. After several corpse runs and the other mishaps that result from trying to ask the Dark Irons for directions, I finally found my way to the place to lava hop to get attuned.

Those two experiences convinced me to always learn my way around a dungeon. Always always always. So I remember pretty much every dungeon I've been in (aside from Maraudon, fucking Maraudon). I can easily lead the way through Dire Maul. The Outland dungeons are laughably easy to navigate. The Northrend dungeons are also cake to find your way around. I know where the bosses are in ZG and I'm pretty sure I could get around MC. UBRS, LBRS, and even BRD are no problem.

In fact BRD I know so well I can give directions in gchat. I don't remember why Zephon was trying to get to the bar. I think maybe he had some rep turnins to do there? Anyway, Tylara and Kairon were helping to retake the Echo Isles. So while we did that I gave Zephon some directions:

I believe that he did eventually take a break from dwarf and gnome slaughtering to actually go to the bar.

Stinky

Ah, the neverending war between Mages and Warlocks. You'd think that we'd put aside our differences and agree to just hate the rogues or hunters. But no, no that would be far too sensible. Instead there is endless veiled disparagement.

One of the common things is making fun of one another's spells. For example I never refer to a Fel Toilet by it's official name. I much prefer the name Fel Toilet. It rather looks like a toilet, and it's got the sound of a refilling toilet tank perfect.

Someone forgot to flush:

playing a rogue is like writing perl

A friend of mine said recently that she hated programming in Perl, becuase pretty much any random ASCII string was valid Perl. I replied that someone who actually wrote good Perl would produce organized, readable code...

I was musing on how someone could roll a rogue and pretty much randomly hit the abilities in their hot keys and still do decent damage, and then it occurred to me that I was reminded of my friend's observation on Perl.

So: playing a rogue is like writing Perl. Pretty much any random set of keystrokes will do, but to be good you have to be a bit organized in what you type.
